			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>NEW HAVEN, CT (December 7, 1995) &#8212; College journalists from across the country today launched Student.Net, the first daily online college newsmagazine ever. </p>
<p>Students from Yale, Columbia, Northwestern, Georgetown, and other universities have collaborated in a &quot;virtual newsroom&quot; for months to create Student.Net, which can be found on the Internet&#039;s World Wide Web at &quot;http://www.student.net&quot; and is accessible from all the major commercial online services.  </p>
<p>Unlike other sites aimed at college students, content on Student.Net is created entirely by journalists &#8212; not corporate marketers.  </p>
<p>&quot;Too much of what&#039;s online is advertising disguised as content,&quot;  said Stewart Ugelow, the editor in chief and a junior at Yale University.  &quot;Student.Net provides a desperately-needed independent college publication on the Web, one that is not beholden to corporate interests and that is dedicated to preserving journalistic traditions in this new medium.&quot;  </p>
<p>Student.Net will feature a wide range of articles and interactive services. They include:  </p>
<ul>
<li> A daily cover story, such as today&#039;s &quot;Brew-Ha-Ha: The Art and the Science of Brewing Beer in Your Dorm Room.&quot; </li>
<li> &quot;TV Search &amp; Remind&quot;<br /> A searchable television grid with a twist. Visitors can search TV listings by title, channel, date, actor or genre up to a month in advance. If a future show catches their interest, &quot;Search &amp; Remind&quot; can automatically send them a note by electronic mail about the show and its plot &#8212; before it airs! </li>
<li> &quot;Personal Page Direct&quot;<br /> The most comprehensive school-by-school index of personal student pages anywhere on the Internet. At most schools, it is nearly impossible to find the internal list of students&#039; personal pages. Personal Page Direct provides direct links to those pages at several hundred schools.  </li>
<li> &quot;Meet New Friends&quot;<br /> An automated personals section using double-blind technology that will allow visitors to use the service without fear of online harassment.  </li>
</ul>
<p>These services and all areas of Student.Net are completely free.  Revenues on the site will come from advertising.  Business operations will be handled by Student.Net Publishing L.L.C., which was formed for the project and is wholly owned by the students involved.  </p>
